One two-month journey around the Land Down Under was terminated in the wake of the fatal incident of an older lady who was stranded by the cruise liner on a distant island.

Suzanne Rees had been walking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the group for a break. The vessel left without her and returned later that day after the crew became aware the lady was not present.

A large-scale search operation discovered her remains the next day.

Authorities are looking into the tragedy, together with investigators and the medical examiner.

Head of the cruise operator announced that guests and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and previous mechanical issues".

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her loved ones was "stunned and grieved that the vessel left Lizard Island after an organised tour without my mum".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her parent as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a participant of a bushwalking organization.

"Based on limited details we have been informed, it seems that there was a failure of responsibility and ordinary reasoning," she said.

She further stated that she hoped the inquiry would be able to pinpoint what "the operator should have done that might have saved Mum's life".

"Based on information from the investigators that it was a extremely warm afternoon, and mother became unwell on the uphill trek," she revealed.

"She was asked her to go back, unescorted. Then the vessel departed, apparently without conducting a headcount.

"At some stage in that chain of events, or shortly after, mother died, alone."

In a statement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the company was "collaborating extensively with officials to aid their inquiry".

He said that the firm was "very regretful that this has occurred" and had provided its full support to the loved ones.

The ship serves up to 120 passengers with 46 personnel, according to official data. It was specifically designed to enter distant regions of the nation's shoreline and is outfitted with "tenders" - compact vessels used to ferry travelers on land visits.
