Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.
The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer has experience in the region and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their position as key figures in the powerful family could assist the party enter locations they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Questers and Planners groups.
Fans can look forward to discovering which characters will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
